world and preparing for kindergarten.
The philosophy of Millstone of Ivy is to provide a gentle, loving atmosphere for young children to begin exploring the world away from their home and family. Throughout the school year, an academic program based on the "Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning" is developed by a staff of well-qualified and experienced teachers. Our summer camp program is based on themes developed weekly providing the children with educational topics presented in a fun and creative way. Millstone is an independent, privately owned program. We make every effort to welcome families from varying backgrounds and rejoice in our differences.
An administrator will meet with the parent and child and give them a tour of the facility. At that time the program at Millstone will be reviewed and some of the teachers on duty that day will be met briefly. Separate interviews with the teachers can be arranged for times when they are not in the classroom. Children between the ages of 2 years old and school age are accepted into the school year program. We have one classroom that is equipped to handle nonpotty trained children. A second class can give some support to almost potty trained children. Please be sure to indicate the need to be in one of these two classes if your child is not fully potty trained. All other classrooms have only potty trained children. Positions are filled generally for the school year however mid-year enrollment is possible if an opening in the classroom exists. A summer program for preschool children as well as a separate early elementary school age group is also offered. Only fully potty trained children will be permitted in the Millstone Pool during summer camp. Going under a sprinkler is given as an option for these children.
Our goal at Millstone is to prepare the young child for a successful transition into Kindergarten. We expose them to a variety of activities each day that will help them develop social, emotional and academic skills needed for the elementary classroom. With these goals in mind the teachers are given the freedom to create there own lessons. It is believed that a teacher will bring a greater enthusiasm to the classroom by being involved with the formation of their program. For that reason we look for teachers that have the training, the confidence and a creative flare to man the classrooms.
If you have questions about the opportunities available to you in our programs, feel free to send us a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
